Netflix Censored Back To The Future 2 With Terrible Edits (Then Fixed It)

It has been revealed that Netflix had censored a portion of a big scene in Back To The Future 2 and changed it back after fan backlash.

Netflix censored a portion of a significant scene in Back To The Future Part II but has since changed it back. When Back To The Future made its debut in 1985, it took the world by storm. Naturally, the film spawned sequels, including Back To The Future Part II and Back To The Future Part III. Both sequels, though not as well-received as the original film, were both financially successful. The first film is considered by many to be one of the best science fiction films ever made, including Marvel director James Gunn, who claims Back To The Future is the perfect movie.

Back To The Future Part 2 took place soon after the events of the first film, reuniting audiences with Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) as they head to the future to prevent Marty's future son from being imprisoned. However, their mission goes awry, causing the pair to have to once again travel back to 1955 to fix the present. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Bob Gale, who helped pen all three films in the trilogy.

Eagle-eyed Twitter users Justin Proper and ATeRSa NDUcC spotted that Netflix had edited one of the more significant scenes in Back To The Future Part II. However, due to the backlash from fans, Netflix has since fixed those changes. The scene in question occurs when Marty travels back to 1955 and is trying to retrieve the sports almanac from the future that has fallen into the wrong hands. He thinks he has finally found it in the office of Mr. Strickland, only to discover the jacket of the almanac has been used to conceal an erotic magazine. The clips below show the difference between the original scene and Netflix's edited version.

Though Back To The Future is one of the most beloved films ever made, that hasn't stopped talks of a reboot from transpiring. Spider-Man actor Tom Holland confirmed that such discussions had taken place and that he was a part of them. He even addressed the Back To The Future deepfake video that put his face onto Marty's and Robert Downey Jr.'s onto Doc Brown's. The film will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2020, with a 4k collection of the trilogy being released by Universal.

The Back To The Future trilogy will always remain delightful, each film not only making the time travel dynamics accessible and exciting but giving audiences incredibly likable and endearing characters to root for in Marty McFly and Doc Brown. Though the sequels hit many of the same beats as their predecessors, each was fun and wonderfully entertaining. The fact Netflix made such a strange edit to the second film is cause for discontent, considering the fact the streaming platform has plenty of content that wouldn't be deemed family-friendly. Fortunately, the streaming service made things right and restored the film to its original glory so that fans can enjoy Back To The Future Part II the way it was intended to be seen.
